Job Summary: Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care for all age patients in operating room. Provides care within nursing standards of practice and the policies of the Center. Makes decisions regarding direct patient care needs and communicates appropriate information to physicians, patients, family members, and personnel in other departments as well as team members. May have additional responsibilities as designated by Administrator the Clinical Director, which include, but are not limited to, serving on committees, participating in quality improvement audits and projects.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: The following description of the job responsibilities and performance expectations are intended to reflect the major responsibilities of the job, but is not intended to describe the minor duties or other responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.
Knows and adheres to policies of the Center and demonstrates fiscal responsibility.
Follows standards, policies, procedures, goals, and objectives for peri-operative nursing care according to accepted standards.
Maintains and demonstrates current skills and knowledge in aseptic technique, proper scrub technique, cleaning and preparation of equipment, and operating room.
Oversees the Management of the OR room including: patient safety, equipment, supplies, instruments, sterile technique, OR traffic patterns, and ensuring policies and procedures are followed.
Assists Anesthesia throughout the OR Procedure
Demonstrates ability to understand the unique needs of each age group of the patient population.
Follows OSHA and other standards for protection against blood borne pathogens and body fluids.
Seeks involvement in activities that promote professional growth and behavior.
Uses good body mechanics and aseptic technique.
Remains calm and functions as a team leader (along with Anesthesia) during times of stress and in crisis situations.
Directs and oversees the counts: sponges, needles, and instruments with the Scrub Personnel.
Informs Manager of applicable day-to-day situations.
Follows employee health and other personnel and staffing policies.
Qualifications: Graduate of an approved school of nursing. Currently licensed in the state of Michigan. BLS required. One year experience required intra-operative setting, preferred Ambulatory Surgery Setting. Demonstrates clinical competency, leadership, and teaching capabilities. Physically and emotionally capable of performing responsibilities of position.
Job Behavior: Demonstrates ability to work as a team member and to communicate directly and professionally. Is flexible, reliable, productive, patient-oriented, and self-motivated. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. He/she is able to identify and categorize each patient’s age-specific grouping of needs, such as those for an infant, adolescent, adult, or geriatric patient. Maintains professional conduct and appearance.
Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations to patients, physicians and other employees of the Center.
Physical Demands: Shall be physically able to stand, walk, and maintain varied body motions and positions for long periods of time. Demonstrates manual dexterity. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The employee shall be able to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects or tools. The employee is required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Shall be able to hear and speak. Shall be able to move up to 100 pounds.

The Cataract Specialty Surgical Center (CSSC) in Berkley, MI is designed, equipped, and staffed exclusively for outpatient surgery. Posts all patient account payments in PAS; Posts payments correctly following guidelines; documents all zero pay EOB's and follows up with insurance carrier, if applicable; use specific journal codes; balance of account is correct according to EOB when posting finished; Posts insurance overpayments correctly & prepares patient refund request; posts only adjustments & refunds with proper authorization; reports payer problems or concerns to management; reviews credit balances on accounts while working AR; complies with USPI internal control practices & policies; protects confidentiality of health related information; Ensures all contractual adjustments are done correctly at time of billing; Assures charge sheets & billing sheets with Operative Reports, prepare weekly reports to show all outstanding and any uncoded/unbilled charges; filing/maintenance of payment batches; respond to inbound mail from insurance companies and patients; documents action taken and result in the patient accounting system account notes; interacts appropriately and effectively with all patients, physicians and staff; pursue payments from guarantor for outstanding patient liabilities; purse payment from insurance companies for outstanding claims; organize the collection follow up effort on outstanding receivables.
